Kruger United chairman Bongani Wati denies knowledge of reported club exit

Kruger United chairman Bongani Wati says he was unaware of a social media statement claiming he had been removed from the club and was no longer involved from 23 September 2026.

Wati co-owns the Mpumalanga-based PSL club with Basil Khoza. The pair are reportedly negotiating a buy-out that would see Khoza take full control of the team.

However, Wati told KICK OFF he had not received any communication from Kruger United about the reported change in ownership or his position at the club.

“I don’t know about that,” Wati said when asked about reports that he had left the club.

“I have no idea. I have not been around. Angazi lutho. I don’t know anything. I have been receiving calls and…as far as I’m concerned, I’m still part of the team. I don’t know, angazi kwenzakalani [I don’t know what’s happening].”

The statement circulating on social media claims Wati was sacked from what it describes as his own club. He said he had not seen the statement and could not confirm whether a resolution had been taken in his absence.

“I haven’t been around; I’ve been stuck on other things, like personal stuff, and… maybe there was a resolution taken on my absent I have no idea,” he added.

Wati said he expected to establish the situation once he returned and was able to speak to the club.

“When I get back and get a chance to speak to the team, I will then know what’s happening, but right now I don’t know what’s happening. I have no idea what is going on. I have not seen any statement.”
