Krepin Diatta joins Watford after leaving AS Monaco

Krepin Diatta has agreed to join Watford after becoming a free agent following his departure from AS Monaco, Africafoot has confirmed exclusively.

The Senegal international has signed for the English club until the end of the current season, with Watford holding an option to extend the agreement by a further 12 months next summer. The 27-year-old had not reached an agreement with another club before the summer transfer window closed.

Because he was without a contract, Diatta remained eligible to move after the transfer deadline. He completed his switch to the Vicarage Road side after several weeks of negotiations. Watford announced the agreement and Diatta spoke to the club’s official media after his arrival, although no details of those comments were provided.

Interest from several countries

Watford were not the only club to show an interest in the winger during his uncertain period. According to information previously revealed exclusively by Africafoot, clubs in Serie A and Ligue 1 had presented possible options.

There was also interest from the Premier League, with Everton and Crystal Palace among the clubs linked with a move. In Turkey, Konyaspor, Trabzonspor and Besiktas were also reported to be potential destinations.

The Championship club ultimately won the race for his signature. The move brings Diatta’s five-year spell in France to an end and gives him the opportunity to continue his career in England.

Diatta made 143 official appearances for AS Monaco, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. His value was stated at 6 million euros, while he earned an annual salary of 3,000,000 euros, equivalent to 1,950,000,000 FCFA, during his time in France.

Watford’s next fixture will be against Burnley in the ninth round of the English Championship. The listed prices for the match are 2.75 for a Watford victory, 3.30 for a draw and 2.05 for a Burnley win.
