Pelé Mboyo Joins FC Sion on Three-Year Deal
By BBC Sport
Swiss side FC Sion have strengthened their squad with the late-window signing of Belgian forward Pelé Mboyo, who has penned a three-year contract with the club.
The 28-year-old, who was born in Kinshasa, DR Congo, arrives from KRC Genk, where he had been featuring primarily for the reserve team. Despite limited exposure in the first team last season, Mboyo delivered a solid individual campaign, netting eight goals and providing five assists in just 19 appearances in the Belgian top flight.
Mboyo brings international pedigree to Sion, having earned two caps for Belgium in 2012 under then-head coach Marc Wilmots during the qualification campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. His move to Switzerland marks a new chapter in a career that has included stints at Gent, Genk, and other notable Belgian clubs.
With his blend of power, technical ability, and experience at both domestic and international levels, Mboyo is expected to bolster Sion’s attacking options as they look to make a strong push in the Swiss Super League.
FC Sion, who also recently secured the signing of Geoffrey Mujangi Bia, appear determined to reinforce their offensive line ahead of the new season. Club officials hope Mboyo’s arrival will add depth and quality in the final third, especially as they chase domestic success.
