KRC Genk break transfer record with €10.5m signing of Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi
Belgian giants KRC Genk have officially completed the signing of Nigerian forward Rafiu Durosinmi from Italian club Pisa in a record-breaking deal worth €10.5 million.
The 23-year-old striker has signed a four-year contract with Genk, becoming the most expensive player acquisition in the club’s history as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Durosinmi arrives in Belgium with a growing reputation after an impressive spell at Czech side Viktoria Plzeň, where he established himself as one of the most productive attacking players in the league.
During his time with Viktoria Plzeň, the Nigerian forward made 86 appearances across all competitions, scoring 35 goals and providing 10 assists. His consistent performances attracted interest from several clubs across Europe before he secured a move to Pisa in Italy.
Genk monitored the striker’s progress and eventually moved to secure his signature, viewing him as a key addition to their attacking department. The size of the transfer fee underlines the club’s confidence in Durosinmi’s ability to make a significant impact in Belgian football.
The Nigerian attacker is expected to bring pace, strength, movement and goalscoring ability to a Genk side known for developing talented players and competing at the highest level domestically.
Speaking after completing his move, Durosinmi expressed his excitement about joining Genk and outlined his ambitions to make an immediate contribution.
“I want to be important for the team from day one, score goals, and give everything in every match,” Durosinmi told the club’s official website.
The striker’s arrival represents an important milestone in his career as he continues his journey through European football. After making his mark in the Czech Republic and gaining experience in Italy, Durosinmi now has the opportunity to showcase his qualities in Belgium.
Genk have a strong reputation for identifying and developing emerging talents, and the club will be hoping the Nigerian forward can become another success story while helping them compete for domestic honours and European qualification.
For Durosinmi, the move also provides a platform to continue pushing for greater recognition at international level. His performances in Europe have increased his profile, and a successful spell in Belgium could further strengthen his chances of earning more opportunities with the Super Eagles.
With a record transfer fee attached to his name, expectations will be high, but the Nigerian striker has already shown his confidence and determination to deliver.
As he begins his new chapter at KRC Genk, Rafiu Durosinmi will be aiming to justify the club’s historic investment and become one of the leading attacking figures in Belgian football.
