Algerian winger Kouceila Boualia free-kick helps Espérance extend lead at summit

Kouceila Boualia scored a stunning second-half free-kick as Espérance de Tunis strengthened their grip on top spot in the Tunisian championship with a 3-0 victory in Béja on matchday 22.

The Algerian winger, introduced in the 62nd minute, made an immediate impact four minutes later by curling a left-footed effort from more than 20 metres into the top corner.

His strike doubled Espérance’s advantage and put the result beyond doubt.

Espérance, also known as Taraji, had taken the lead in first-half stoppage time when Jack Diarra found the net.

The breakthrough came after a tightly contested opening period in which both sides struggled to create clear opportunities.

Mohamed Amine Tougai made his second start since returning from injury, lining up alongside Hamza Jelassi in defence.

The pair helped maintain stability at the back as Espérance gradually asserted control, particularly after the interval.

Boualia replaced a Burkinabe teammate shortly after the hour mark and quickly demonstrated his quality.

His free-kick, struck with precision and power, left the goalkeeper with no chance and shifted the momentum decisively in favour of the visitors.

Jebri added a third goal later in the match to complete the scoring and seal a comprehensive win.

The result ensures that Espérance remain two points clear at the top of the table.

Now managed by Patrice Beaumelle, Espérance continue to build momentum as the season progresses.

Their advantage over Club Africain at the summit was preserved thanks to this latest success.

The victory in Béja underlines Espérance’s consistency in the latter stages of the campaign, with Boualia’s goal likely to be remembered as the defining moment of the evening.

His contribution off the bench highlighted the squad depth available to Beaumelle as the title race intensifies.
