Konyaspor sign DR Congo-French defender Arthur Masuaku from Sunderland

Konyaspor have signed DR Congo-French left-back Arthur Masuaku from Sunderland, completing the 32-year-old defender’s move from the Premier League to the Turkish Super Lig.

Masuaku has joined the club on a contract running until 30 June 2028. The transfer was completed on 10 August 2026, with no fee disclosed for the move.

The left-footed defender arrives with experience in England, Turkey, Greece and France. He played for Sunderland before switching to Konyaspor and will now continue his career in Turkey’s top division.

Masuaku was born in Lille and holds DR Congo and French nationality. Standing at 1.79 metres, he operates primarily at left-back, where his preferred left foot has been a defining part of his role throughout his career.

His list of honours includes a French Cup won with RC Lens in the 2025-26 season. He also won the Turkish Cup with Besiktas in the 2023-24 campaign and the Turkish Super Cup in 2024-25.

Earlier in his career, Masuaku won the Greek championship twice with Olympiacos, in 2015 and 2016, and lifted the Greek Cup with the club in 2015. Those successes came before his later return to Turkish football with Besiktas.

Konyaspor compete in the Super Lig, while Sunderland were listed in the Premier League before the transfer. Masuaku’s arrival therefore sees him remain in top-flight football while moving to a new league and club.

His new contract keeps him at Konyaspor through the end of June 2028. Masuaku is now a Konyaspor player after completing his move from Sunderland.
