Konyaspor reject Mostafa Mohamed move despite reported offer

Konyaspor officials reportedly have no intention of signing Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed, despite earlier reports linking the Egypt international with a move to the Turkish club.

According to Turkish outlet Konya’nın Sesi, Mohamed’s representatives offered the 28-year-old to Konyaspor during the ongoing transfer window. However, club officials have reportedly made it clear that the Süper Lig side do not plan to pursue the forward.

Konyaspor want a winger

Konyaspor currently have nine foreign players on their books and one remaining foreign-player slot available. The club’s priority is reportedly to use that place to strengthen the wing rather than add another striker.

The development comes after KingFut reported that Mohamed had travelled to Turkey to finalise his departure from Nantes, with Konyaspor understood to be the leading candidate for his signature.

Sources had also indicated that the Turkish club had submitted a lucrative proposal for the former Galatasaray forward.

However, Mohamed’s next destination remains uncertain as he attempts to secure an exit from Nantes before the Turkish transfer window closes on September 4.

Nantes demand transfer fee

Nantes are unwilling to release Mohamed for free and are seeking a transfer fee for the player, whose contract with the French club runs until June 2027.

The striker is also negotiating a financial settlement with Nantes after his wages were reduced following the club’s relegation to Ligue 2.

His situation has become increasingly difficult, with Mohamed training away from the senior squad since returning to Nantes almost a month after pre-season began.

Nantes head coach Michel Der Zakarian has confirmed that Mohamed will continue with the reserve team until the transfer window closes.

The decision has already kept him out of Nantes’ opening three Ligue 2 matches against Red Star, Laval and Rodez.

Galatasaray spell offers Turkish experience

A return to Turkey would not be unfamiliar territory for Mohamed, who previously enjoyed a productive spell with Galatasaray.

He joined the Istanbul giants from Zamalek in January 2021 and scored 17 goals in 58 appearances before returning to Nantes.

Nantes initially signed Mohamed on loan in 2022 before making the move permanent a year later. His time in France, however, has been less prolific, with the striker scoring four goals in 24 league appearances last season.

That form also contributed to his omission from Egypt’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Mohamed’s representatives have explored other options, with talks with Egyptian club Pyramids reportedly stalling earlier this month over disagreements regarding the proposed contract length.

With the Turkish transfer window closing on Friday, September 4, Mohamed faces a race against time to find a new club and end his increasingly complicated spell at Nantes.
