Konyaspor keep Emam Ashour’s interest alive despite Al Ahly transfer stance

Turkish club Konyaspor remain interested in signing Al Ahly and Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour during the ongoing summer transfer window, despite the Egyptian giants’ decision to reject negotiations for their players.

Konyaspor board member Ali Camgoz confirmed that the Turkish side is continuing to monitor the situation after Al Ahly formally announced that it would not consider offers for its players as the club prepares for the 2026/27 season.

Konyaspor reportedly submitted a second official offer to Al Ahly on Monday, worth $4 million plus $500,000 in potential bonuses, after an earlier proposal was rejected.

Speaking to Yalla Kora following Al Ahly’s statement, Camgoz acknowledged the club’s position but indicated that Konyaspor would continue to follow developments surrounding Ashour.

“Yes, we followed Al Ahly’s statement, but we will follow all developments,” Camgoz said.

He also clarified that Konyaspor have not yet approached Ashour directly and would only make contact with the player if they receive permission from Al Ahly.

“We have not contacted Imam Ashour, and we will contact the player if we obtain approval from Al Ahly club,” he added.

Camgoz further dismissed suggestions that Konyaspor’s pursuit of Ashour was influenced by Mohamed Salah’s reported move to Turkish club Trabzonspor.

“No, we did not make the offer because of Mohamed Salah, as Konyaspor has been following Emam Ashour for a long time,” he explained.

The latest developments come amid efforts by Al Ahly to secure Ashour’s long-term future at the club. The Egyptian champions have reportedly offered the 28-year-old a two-year contract extension that would keep him at the club until the summer of 2030.

Ashour’s current contract with Al Ahly runs until 2028, while the proposed extension would also reportedly include an improved salary. The club’s football management has already held talks with the midfielder, although no final agreement has been reached.

Ashour has emerged as an important player for both club and country. His performances for Egypt at the 2026 FIFA World Cup attracted significant attention, with the midfielder scoring twice against Belgium in the group stage before adding another goal against Australia in the round of 32.

The midfielder joined Al Ahly from Danish club Midtjylland in the summer of 2023 and has since established himself as a key figure in the Cairo-based side’s midfield.

His current market value is estimated at around €5 million, according to Transfermarkt.
