Kondogbia could leave Marseille as Sunderland show interest
Marseille are preparing for a busy summer as the club looks to cut costs after missing out on the Champions League next season.
Geoffrey Kondogbia is now among the players who could move on, with the club expected to reshape the squad.
The 33-year-old midfielder has struggled to stay fit this season and has not managed to string together consistent performances in an OM shirt. Since arriving from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2023, he has brought experience to the squad, but he has never fully locked down a regular starting spot.
His contract runs until June 2027, and his salary is one of the higher ones in the squad. That makes him a possible departure as Marseille try to ease financial pressure and create room for new arrivals.
Sunderland are reportedly monitoring his situation and like his profile, especially his top-level experience and presence in midfield. The English club, coached by Frenchman Régis Le Bris, could offer Kondogbia a new challenge in the Premier League.
For Marseille, his potential exit would fit a broader effort to reduce the wage bill and rebuild a squad better suited to the club’s sporting goals.
