Konate leaves France squad with knee injury ahead of Turkey match

Ibrahima Konate has withdrawn from the France squad after suffering a minor sprain to his right knee.

The Real Madrid defender has returned to his club to continue his recovery following discussions between the medical teams of the French national side and Real Madrid.

France begin their UEFA Nations League campaign against Turkey on Friday, but Konate has been ruled out of the match and will play no part during the international break.

The French Football Federation confirmed the 26-year-old’s departure from the squad.

“In agreement with the coaching staff, and following a cordial exchange between the medical staff of the French national team and Real Madrid, the player is once again available to his club as of today,” the federation said.

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has been called up as Konate’s replacement.

Konate’s injury is not expected to sideline him for a significant period, allowing him time to recover while domestic football is paused for international fixtures.

Real Madrid will hope the centre-back is fit to return when La Liga resumes, with Villarreal due to visit the Bernabeu on 10 October.
