Kompany praises teenage Senegalese star Bara Sapoko Ndiaye after first Bayern Munich start
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has offered high praise for teenage Senegalese sensation Bara Sapoko Ndiaye following his first Bundesliga start in the champions’ dramatic win over Mainz 05 on Saturday.
Ndiaye, who had previously made three substitute appearances since breaking into the first team, was handed his maiden start but endured a difficult opening as Bayern trailed 3-0 at half-time.
The Bundesliga champions, however, mounted a remarkable second-half comeback, inspired by goals from Nicolas Jackson, Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane to complete a stunning turnaround.
Despite the challenging first half, Kompany was impressed with the youngster’s composure and contribution over 77 minutes on the pitch.
“Such a physical game is the toughest possible test for a young player,” Kompany said, as quoted by Bavarian Football Works.
“It really wasn’t a game for young players, but he needs this to learn from. I thought he did quite well on the ball and kept up with the pace of the game.
“For me, there’s no responsibility on his shoulders. It’s up to the experienced players to step up. But he also showed a reaction in the second half. It was a good appearance in such a difficult game for a young player. He can be proud.”
The match is expected to be an important milestone in Ndiaye’s early career as he continues to adapt to top-flight football under Kompany at Bayern Munich.
