Kofi Amoako works toward first Hamburg appearance

Kofi Amoako is still waiting for his first competitive appearance for Hamburger SV after joining the club from Dresden during the summer.

The 21-year-old midfielder has found the transition to Bundesliga football demanding and was left out of the squad for HSV’s recent 2-1 victory over FC Koln for performance-related reasons. His slow start, however, is being viewed as part of a normal development process rather than a long-term concern.

HSV assistant coach Loic Fave acknowledged the size of the challenge facing the young player. “I believe the jump from the second division to the top flight is big. Other players, and we as a team, experienced that last year,” he explained.

Amoako must become accustomed to the greater intensity of Bundesliga football, including the standards demanded during daily training. “He has to take these steps; he is a young player,” Fave added.

Competition for minutes has also made his route into the team more difficult. Amoako is viewed as cover for Nicolai Remberg, who has established himself as a regular defensive midfielder.

Recent reports suggest Amoako’s training performances have improved significantly. He has also sought advice from experienced teammates, including Jordan Torunarigha, while continuing to work hard despite his difficult introduction.
