Kobbie Mainoo, the 20-year-old Manchester United midfielder, is reportedly considering a move abroad, declining the club’s recent contract extension offer.
Mainoo, who has two years remaining on his current contract, believes that opportunities outside the Premier League may better suit his career aspirations.
Having risen through United’s youth ranks since joining at age six, Mainoo made his senior debut on January 10, 2023, in a 3-0 EFL Cup victory over Charlton Athletic. The English-Ghanaian midfielder earned his first Premier League appearance on February 19, 2023, coming on as a substitute in a 3-0 win against Leicester City. His performances led to an England call-up, and he debuted for the national team on March 23, 2024, in a friendly against Brazil.
During the 2023-2024 season, Mainoo featured prominently for United, making 32 appearances across all competitions and scoring five goals. His contributions were instrumental in the team’s FA Cup triumph that season. However, the current season has been marred by injuries, limiting him to 15 Premier League starts before a recent setback sidelined him until April.
Currently among the lower earners at United, with a weekly wage of £20,000, Mainoo’s representatives have been in discussions with the club regarding a significant pay rise.
