Ghanaian FA pursues Kobbie Mainoo amidst rising international interest

Kobbie Mainoo is fighting hard to revive his Manchester United journey under Ruben Amorim, with the manager putting him through intense training sessions that could hand him a major chance in the coming days.

The 20-year-old midfielder is being lined up as a possible replacement for the suspended Casemiro in Saturday’s Premier League clash at Brentford.

Mainoo had requested a loan move in the summer but United blocked it, and his season so far has been limited to four outings, including a difficult Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby. Yet the academy product remains determined to win a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup, even as contract talks drag on with his current deal running until 2027.

A United source revealed, “Ruben has been working with Kobbie on his defensive plays and skills, talking with him a lot about defensive commitment in order to try him alongside Bruno [Fernandes] at some point.”

“Ruben trusts Kobbie’s talent and sees that he has been working very hard and giving everything in training lately,” the source added.
