Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo nears return ahead of derby clash with city

England midfielder of Ghanaian descent, Kobbie Mainoo, has reportedly not given up on his desire to leave Manchester United on loan.

According to sources, the youngster will decide his future with the English side based on the amount of playing time he will get before the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old was eager to secure a loan move ahead of the 2025/26 season, with a deal to join Napoli said to have been mapped out.

However, United blocked the transfer. According to ESPN, the option could be revived in January if Mainoo does not establish himself as a regular starter by then.

Mainoo is understood to be frustrated with his lack of minutes under manager Ruben Amorim, having started just 12 of the Portuguese coach’s 30 Premier League matches in charge. His main obstacle remains club captain Bruno Fernandes, whom Amorim continues to rely on heavily.

With his pathway blocked, Mainoo is determined to push for more opportunities in order to aid his development and boost his chances of forcing his way back into England’s World Cup plans.
