Kobbie Mainoo nets winning goal for Manchester United against Liverpool
England youngster of Ghanaian descent, Kobbie Mainoo, delivered the decisive moment for Manchester United as his late goal secured a thrilling victory over Liverpool in the English Premier League on Sunday.
United made a bright start to the contest and went ahead early, with Matheus Cunha finding the net in the sixth minute to give the home side an immediate advantage.
The momentum remained with the Red Devils, and they doubled their lead just eight minutes later when Benjamin Sissoko finished clinically to send them into the break with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.
Liverpool responded strongly after the restart and began to claw their way back into the game. Dominic Szoboszlai reduced the deficit in the 47th minute, setting the tone for a spirited second-half performance from the visitors. Their persistence paid off in the 56th minute when Cody Gakpo struck the equaliser to level matters.
With the game finely poised, Mainoo stepped up in the 77th minute to restore Manchester United’s lead. The young midfielder continued his impressive run of form with a composed finish that ultimately proved to be the match-winner.
The victory sees Manchester United climb to 64 points in third place, while Liverpool remain on 58 points in fourth, as the race for top positions in the league intensifies.
