Tottenham are being linked with a surprise move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, with the north London club said to be monitoring the 20-year-old’s situation at Old Trafford.
Reports on Transfermarkt list the England- and Ghana-eligible central midfielder as a rumoured target for Spurs, with the move currently given an unspecified probability (“?”) and no indication yet of an agreed fee. Mainoo’s current market value is stated at €40.00m, a figure likely to form the starting point for any discussions should Tottenham firm up their interest.
Mainoo is currently contracted to Manchester United, but the absence of publicly listed contract start or expiry dates in the data has added a layer of uncertainty to his medium-term future. That in turn has prompted speculation that, depending on how talks develop behind the scenes, he could eventually move closer to free-agent status if no new long-term agreement is put in place.
The Stockport-born midfielder, who stands at 1.80m and is predominantly right-footed, has risen through United’s ranks, progressing from Manchester United Youth to the U18s, then the U21s, before stepping up to the senior side in January 2023. All of his club football to date has come within the Manchester United structure and in the Premier League environment.
Mainoo’s market value trajectory underlines his rapid rise. From €300,000 at Manchester United U21 in November 2022, his valuation climbed to €6m by December 2023, peaking at €55m in mid-2024 with the first team. That figure has since been adjusted down to €40m as of 9 December 2025, but he remains one of United’s most highly regarded young midfielders.
With dual nationality links to both England and Ghana, a regular role in Manchester United’s midfield and growing attention from a domestic rival, any move to Tottenham – if it materialises – would mark a significant turning point in his career and could define how his potential is ultimately realised at the top level.
