Kobamelo Kodisang leaves Mamelodi Sundowns after contract agreement

Bafana Bafana midfielder Kobamelo Kodisang has left Mamelodi Sundowns after agreeing with the African champions to end his contract, bringing his spell at the club to a close.

The 27-year-old’s departure was mutually agreed, according to KickOff.com, after he was left out of new manager Miguel Cardoso’s plans for the 2026/27 season.

Kodisang’s future had been uncertain since July, when it was reported that discussions were under way between his representatives and Sundowns over the best solution for both parties. A permanent move away from Chloorkop was among the options being considered.

The former Platinum Stars FC winger joined Sundowns from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Moreirense in July 2024. He signed a five-year contract but was unable to establish himself as a regular in the team.

He later returned to Portugal on loan with AVS Futebol before moving back to South Africa in January 2026 to join Stellenbosch FC.

Kodisang’s time in the Cape Winelands ended when the 2025/26 season concluded, with Stellenbosch deciding not to retain him. His Sundowns contract has now also been terminated, leaving him free to look for another club.

The attacker is assessing opportunities in South Africa and abroad as he attempts to secure regular first-team football and revive his career.

People close to Kodisang say he is open to different options, while Premier Soccer League clubs have already expressed an interest in signing him.

It has not yet been decided whether he will remain in South Africa or pursue another opportunity overseas.
