Klopp earns first Germany win as Bischof and Wirtz defeat Serbia

Germany secured their first victory under new manager Jurgen Klopp with a 2-0 win over Serbia at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Thursday.

The result came in the third round of matches in the League A group stage of the Nations League, with the hosts dominating from the opening whistle.

Germany created a series of early chances as they pressed Serbia back, but Niclas Fullkrug was unable to convert a close-range header. The home side continued to control possession and territory, although they had to wait until the 39th minute to break the deadlock.

Tom Bischof put Germany ahead when he followed up after the ball rebounded off the post. The Bayern Munich player struck his first senior international goal to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Germany maintained their intensity after the interval and doubled their advantage in the 61st minute. Liverpool forward Florian Wirtz produced an excellent first touch to bring the ball under control before finishing with precision.

Serbia struggled to respond and rarely threatened Jonas Urbig, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper, during the second half. Germany remained in command until the final whistle to complete a convincing 2-0 victory.

The win provides Germany with some balance after they opened their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw away to the Netherlands before suffering a surprise 1-0 home defeat by Greece.

Germany now have four points and sit third in the group. The Netherlands are second on five points, while Greece lead the standings with seven. Serbia remain bottom without a point.

In the other match played on Thursday, the Netherlands recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 in Greece.
