Kingsley Schindler receives late call-up for Ghana’s AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger
Kingsley Schindler, defender for Samsunspor, has been called up to the Ghanaian national team for the final two fixtures of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign. The 31-year-old right-back joins the squad following multiple player withdrawals ahead of crucial matches against Angola and Niger.
Schindler’s inclusion is part of a reshuffle within the Black Stars lineup.
Eight players have withdrawn due to injuries, prompting Ghana’s coaching team to bring in six replacements.
Schindler, who has featured prominently for his Turkish club with 12 appearances and one goal in the Super Lig this season, will step in to bolster the right flank, filling the gap left by the injured Tariq Lamptey.
With Ghana’s qualification hopes on the line, Schindler and his teammates are expected to report to the Black Stars’ training camp in Accra on Monday evening.
The team faces a challenging path to qualification, requiring a strong performance in both fixtures to keep their AFCON hopes alive.
Ghana’s first test will be away against Angola in Luanda on Friday, November 15, followed by their final group match against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.
Currently third in Group F with two points from four matches, Ghana’s path to qualification is narrow.
Sudan sits at the top of the group with seven points, leaving the Black Stars with no margin for error.
To progress, Ghana must secure victories in both upcoming matches and hope Sudan falters in their remaining games.
Schindler’s addition is expected to bring stability to the defensive setup as Ghana prepares to battle for every point.
His experience in the Turkish league could prove valuable as the Black Stars aim to reverse their fortunes in the final stages of the qualifiers.
