Kings Kangwa: Panathinaikos eye move for Hapoel Beer Sheva and Zambia midfielder

Panathinaikos are weighing up a move for Zambia international Kings Kangwa, who is currently under contract at Hapoel Beer Sheva.

The 27-year-old central midfielder, born in Kasama, has emerged as a target for the Greek Super League side after a standout spell in Israel, where he is tied to Beer Sheva until 30 June 2028. Any deal is expected to be complicated by his long-term contract, with the Israeli champions under no pressure to sell.

Kangwa has made an immediate impact at the start of the new campaign, scoring in both the Israeli Super Cup and UEFA Champions League qualifying. He has started each of Hapoel’s early-season fixtures, playing the majority of minutes and contributing directly to all of his team’s goals in those matches.

Rated at around €3.8 million, the midfielder has seen his stock rise sharply over the past two seasons. He joined Hapoel Beer Sheva from Red Star Belgrade on a permanent deal in July 2024 for a reported €800,000 fee and went on to be named Footballer of the Year in Israel in 2026 after scoring 12 goals in the title-winning 2025-26 campaign.

Before moving to Israel, Kangwa won back-to-back Serbian league and cup doubles with Red Star, enhancing his reputation with important goals in domestic competition. His performances since returning to Beer Sheva, where he previously spent time at youth level, have underlined his importance to the club.

For now, Kangwa remains a key figure in Hapoel Beer Sheva’s midfield and is under contract for a further two years beyond this season, giving the Israeli club a strong negotiating position in any talks with Panathinaikos.
