Kings Kangwa: AEK Athens eye move for Zambia and Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder

Zambia midfielder Kings Kangwa of Hapoel Beer Sheva is being linked with a move to AEK Athens, with the Greek Super League side exploring a deal for the 27-year-old central midfielder. Discussions are at a rumour stage but the likelihood of a transfer is currently being rated at around 66%, with AEK monitoring his situation closely.

Kangwa, who joined Hapoel Beer Sheva from Red Star Belgrade on a permanent deal in July 2024 for a reported fee of €800,000, is under contract in Israel until 30 June 2028. Any agreement is therefore expected to require a significant fee, with his current valuation standing at about €3.8 million.

The midfielder has quickly become a key figure at Beer Sheva, earning the Footballer of the Year award in 2026 after scoring 12 goals for the club. He also helped them secure the Israeli league title in the 2025-26 season, adding to a growing collection of honours since leaving Serbia.

Prior to his move to Israel, Kangwa won back-to-back Serbian championships and two Serbian cups with Red Star Belgrade, underlining his experience in title-winning environments. His impact at Beer Sheva has included an eye-catching start to the current campaign, scoring in his only league appearance so far.

AEK Athens are understood to be attracted by Kangwa’s track record in both Serbia and Israel, as they look to strengthen their midfield options for the upcoming season. For now, Hapoel Beer Sheva remain protected by a long-term contract that runs for another two years, leaving any potential deal dependent on AEK meeting the Israeli club’s valuation.
