Former Hearts of Oak coach and Ghana international Kim Grant has urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to dismiss Black Stars head coach Otto Addo after the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Grant, who has been a vocal critic of Addo’s tactics, expressed his disappointment over the team’s inability to succeed in the qualifiers.
He emphasized that Addo’s approach lacked the necessary tactical experience to build a successful system for the players.
The tactical decisions reflect a glaring lack of experience and the inability to create a coherent playing system tailored to the players’ abilities, Grant said. We’re seeing square pegs forced into round holes, wasting talent and failing to maximize potential on the pitch.
The Black Stars endured a difficult qualification campaign, finishing at the bottom of Group F with no wins.
Defeats to Angola and Niger, both at home, saw Ghana miss out on an AFCON appearance for the first time in 21 years.
Grant voiced his frustration with what he sees as the undue protection of Addo and his staff.
Coaches in the past were dismissed for far less, yet this technical team is being shielded by an inner circle even after this disastrous campaign,” he said. “The notion of retaining them for the World Cup qualifiers is outrageous and risks further embarrassment.
It’s time to stop protecting mediocrity, banish egos, and demand accountability.
The Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council is expected to meet on Wednesday to discuss the Black Stars’ disappointing qualifiers and to deliberate on the future of Addo and his coaching staff.
