Kigali hosts FIFA Coach Educators Development Pathway Assessment

Kigali is at the centre of African football development this week as the Rwandan capital hosts the FIFA Coach Educators Development Pathway Assessment, a key initiative aimed at raising coaching standards across the continent.

The week-long programme has brought together 19 coach educators and coaches from nine Member Associations, underlining Rwanda’s growing reputation as a hub for international football events.

Participants have arrived from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Mauritius and South Sudan, reflecting FIFA’s broader commitment to strengthening technical capacity in Africa.

The assessment forms part of FIFA’s structured global initiative designed to professionalise and elevate the role of coach educators within Member Associations.

By equipping them with modern methodologies, assessment tools and standardised frameworks, FIFA aims to ensure that knowledge gained at the top filters down through grassroots, youth and elite football structures.

Speaking during the programme in Kigali, FERWAFA President Patrice Ndagijimana welcomed the delegates and highlighted the importance of Rwanda hosting such a significant technical event.

He described the gathering as a major step toward reinforcing coaching education systems across Africa and building sustainable football structures.

He encouraged participants to embrace the opportunity to reshape perceptions about African coaching and to position themselves as drivers of long-term change within their respective countries.

The presence of diverse football nations in Kigali not only underscores FIFA’s continental outreach but also reflects Rwanda’s strategic role in advancing football development discussions in Africa.

As sessions continue, the Kigali assessment is expected to leave a lasting impact by strengthening the network of coach educators and enhancing the quality of coaching across Member Associations, reinforcing Africa’s ambition to build excellence from within.
