Khumalo visits Kaizer Chiefs after securing SAFA technical committee role

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Doctor Khumalo has visited the club to ask Executive Chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung for his blessing after being appointed vice-chairman of the South African Football Association (SAFA) technical committee.

Khumalo returned to his former club at Naturena on Wednesday, shortly after SAFA confirmed his new position.

“ A visit at the Village. Had to see the Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, to get my blessings after the SAFA announcement,” Khumalo wrote on his official Instagram account.

His appointment was confirmed recently by SAFA president Danny Jordaan.

The technical committee is chaired by Jack Maluleke and is responsible for helping shape the overall technical direction, development and standards of football in South Africa.

It also recommends coaches for the senior men’s and women’s national teams, Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana. The committee additionally proposes coaches for the junior national teams, with its recommendations submitted to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for consideration and ratification.

Khumalo is regarded as one of South Africa’s greatest footballers. He won 50 caps for Bafana Bafana and played a key role in the team’s 1996 Africa Cup of Nations triumph on home soil.

That side was managed by the late Clive Barker.
