Khanyisa Mayo: Kaizer Chiefs confirm permanent deal for Algerian-based striker

Kaizer Chiefs have secured the permanent signing of Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian club CR Belouizdad, in a move that underlines the Soweto side’s ambition to re-establish themselves as a dominant force in South Africa and on the continent.

The 27-year-old forward, who arrived at Naturena on loan in September 2025, has now committed his long-term future to Amakhosi after weeks of uncertainty and mounting speculation over his next step.

Chiefs confirmed on Wednesday that an agreement had been reached with CR Belouizdad, ending any doubt over whether Mayo would remain in Johannesburg beyond his loan spell. The transfer fee remains undisclosed.

Permanent switch after successful loan spell

Mayo joined Kaizer Chiefs last season from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad and quickly integrated into the squad, impressing both the technical team and supporters with his performances in attack.

The club moved to retain his services following a productive one-season loan, during which he worked his way into a key role under the new technical leadership at Naturena.

“Kaizer Chiefs have completed the permanent signing of Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, following his loan spell with the Glamour Boys last season,” Chiefs stated.

“The deal was finalised for an undisclosed fee agreed upon between the two Clubs.

“Mayo, who worked hard during his one-season loan stint, now commits his future to Chiefs as the team prepares for an ambitious campaign under head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

“The 27-year-old forward will be a key part of the squad competing in both the domestic league and continental CAF competitions.

Known for his pace, creativity, and eye for goal, Mayo has already established himself as a fan favourite at Naturena.”

Statement of intent from Amakhosi

The decision to tie Mayo down on a permanent basis is being viewed as a clear statement of intent from Chiefs, who are under pressure to deliver silverware after a prolonged trophy drought.

With head coach Fernando Da Cruz preparing for what the club describes as an “ambitious campaign”, Mayo’s capture is seen as integral to strengthening the squad’s attacking threat in both the domestic league and CAF inter-club competitions.
