Kevin Williams joins Chippenham as free-agent defensive signing

Irish-Nigerian centre-back Kevin Williams has joined Chippenham from Swiss club FC Weesen on a free transfer, completing his latest move on 3 August 2026.

The 26-year-old defender arrives after a spell in Switzerland, where he played in the 2. Liga Inter – Group 5. Williams made 13 appearances in the competition before leaving FC Weesen and switching to the English club.

Williams was born in Tralee, Kerry, and holds Irish and Nigerian nationality. He stands at 1.85m and is right-footed, with centre-back his established position.

The move to Chippenham follows a short stay at FC Weesen. Williams joined the Swiss side from Kerry FC on 14 February 2026, also on a free transfer, having returned to Ireland after a spell with Malta’s Balzan FC.

His career has included football in Ireland, Germany, Malta and Switzerland. Before joining FC Weesen, he represented Kerry FC, making 85 appearances in the First Division and scoring once. He also played for Balzan, Union Furstenwalde, Inter Leipzig and Cobh Ramblers.

Williams began his senior career with Cobh Ramblers after leaving Cork Academy. His move to Cobh in February 2021 was recorded as a free transfer, with his subsequent switches to Inter Leipzig, Union Furstenwalde, Kerry FC, Balzan and FC Weesen following the same route.

At Kerry, Williams also featured in cup football, making five FAI Cup appearances and providing one assist. His record includes further appearances in German regional competitions during his time with Inter Leipzig and Union Furstenwalde.

Chippenham have now added a defender with experience across several European football systems and a recent playing record in Switzerland. Williams’ arrival marks his ninth recorded club move since leaving Cork Academy in 2019.

The centre-back’s transfer to Chippenham was completed on 3 August 2026, with no fee involved.
