Guitoun shines with two assists in European qualifier

Kevin Guitoun delivered a strong attacking performance in Belgium, providing two assists for Charleroi in their Europa Conference League qualifying match against OH Leuven.

The display adds to a growing run of form for the defender, whose performances could yet pose a selection dilemma for Algeria coach Vladimir Petković, despite his wider competition for a place in the national team.

Charleroi have endured a mixed campaign overall, finishing 11th in the Belgian league’s regular season and missing out on European qualification through league position.

The club’s season has been inconsistent, even with the presence of two Algerian internationals, Guitoun and Yassine Titraoui.

Titraoui has been one of the standout performers for Charleroi and is expected to attract interest from higher-profile clubs in the near future.

Guitoun, meanwhile, has worked his way back into form following a difficult spell at FC Metz, where game time and consistency were harder to come by.

His contribution against OH Leuven highlighted his renewed confidence and attacking influence.

The first assist came after a powerful 30-metre run, where he drove forward with pace before delivering a precise pass for a teammate to finish.

The second assist arrived from a well-weighted cross into the penalty area, finding an unmarked player who converted comfortably.

In total, Guitoun has recorded two goals and one assist in 20 league appearances this season, but his latest European qualification performance marked one of his most influential outings of the campaign.

The result further strengthens his position within the squad and offers encouragement heading into the final stages of the season.

While Charleroi’s overall campaign has lacked consistency, individual performances such as Guitoun’s provide a positive note for both player and club as they look ahead.
