Kevin Akpoguma: Nigeria defender linked with free transfer to Frosinone

Nigeria international Kevin Akpoguma, currently without a club, is being linked with a move to Serie A side Frosinone as the Italian outfit look to reinforce their central defensive options ahead of the new season.

Akpoguma, 31, is available on a free transfer after his most recent contract expired this summer, and his situation has alerted clubs seeking experienced cover at the back. With a listed market value of around €1.5 million, the deal would represent a relatively low-risk addition for Frosinone if they choose to pursue formal talks.

Born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße and standing at 1.92m, the right-footed centre-back offers top-level experience and versatility across the defensive line. His dual heritage with Nigeria and Germany has seen him feature in both systems at youth and senior level during his career.

Akpoguma first came to wider prominence in Germany when he collected the prestigious Fritz Walter gold medal in 2013, an award given to the country’s standout young talents in their age group. A year later he was part of the Germany Under-19 side that claimed the European Under-19 Championship, underlining his reputation at youth international level.

He also played a key role in Karlsruher SC’s successful 2012-13 campaign, helping the club secure the German third-tier title and promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, adding the Baden Cup to a treble of honours that season.

While discussions have not been made public, Akpoguma’s free-agent status means Frosinone can move at any stage, with the defender currently focused on resolving his next club future after formally becoming unattached at the start of July 2026.
