Kenya forward Mohamed Bajaber is optimistic about the future of the Harambee Stars under new coach Benni McCarthy.
The former Manchester United assistant coach recently signed a two-year deal to lead the Kenya national team until 2027.
Kenya will travel to Ivory Coast to face Gambia March 20 before hosting Gabon at the Nyayo National Stadium on March 23, 2025.
Bajaber, one of the local players to have made the cut for the qualifiers has shared insights into McCarthy’s approach.
“We need young blood—young players with fresh legs,” Bajaber said. “The coach believes in us, and even if not now, in the future, these young stars will represent the nation.”
“Training has been good—intense—and the coach has ambition, which is a good thing. He’s always clear about his expectations, and I believe the future looks bright for Kenya.”
Bajaber’s inclusion in the squad follows his impressive form for Kenya Police. The midfielder recently scored a brace in a 3-1 victory over Murang’a Seal, helping his club maintain their lead at the top of the FKF Premier League table.
McCarthy, who was officially unveiled as Kenya’s head coach on March 3, has been closely monitoring local league matches to identify talent. His first three-day training camp, held from March 12-14, focused primarily on local-based players.
