Kenya FA faces fresh backlash over unpaid Harambee Stars allowances

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is facing renewed criticism over unpaid allowances owed to national team players, with foreign-based members of the Harambee Stars reportedly still waiting for payments from three international windows.

According to reports, overseas-based players have not received their allowances for the November, March and June FIFA international windows, a situation that has sparked growing frustration within the squad.

Some players are said to be unhappy with what they perceive as unequal treatment, particularly after Kenya-based players who featured during the March international window reportedly received their payments more than three months ago.

However, local players are also not fully settled, with those involved in the November and June windows still awaiting their outstanding allowances.

The delays have raised concerns among members of the national team, especially as several players based abroad leave their professional clubs and competitive environments to honour national assignments.

Players are expected to make sacrifices to represent the country, but the continued failure to meet basic financial commitments has become a source of concern within the team setup.

The latest issue comes at a critical period for Kenyan football as the Harambee Stars intensify preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament the country will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

With expectations rising ahead of the continental showpiece, stakeholders have called for improved management and timely fulfilment of obligations to ensure players remain fully motivated and focused on national duty.

FKF has previously faced criticism over financial issues involving national teams, with delays in payments and administrative challenges repeatedly attracting public attention.

The federation is now under pressure to address the situation and restore confidence among players as Kenya looks to build a competitive squad ahead of AFCON 2027.
