Minnesota United’s playoff journey ended in disappointment as they succumbed to a 6-2 defeat against LA Galaxy in the Western Conference semi-final. Kelvin Yeboah, the Ghanaian-born Italian forward, delivered a standout performance with two goals, but it wasn’t enough to halt the Galaxy’s dominance at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The game started with a bang as LA Galaxy struck in the opening minute through Gabriel Pec.
Yeboah quickly equalized five minutes later, showcasing the talent that saw him score seven goals in nine regular-season games since joining Minnesota in July.
However, the hosts reclaimed the lead when Dejan Joveljić converted a Marco Reus cross, followed by a goal from Ghanaian forward Joseph Paintsil, extending LA Galaxy’s advantage.
Yeboah reduced the deficit just before halftime by converting a penalty, keeping Minnesota’s hopes alive.
The second half belonged entirely to LA Galaxy, as Pec, Paintsil, and Joveljić added to their tallies, delivering a resounding victory for the five-time champions.
While Minnesota’s season ended on a sour note, Yeboah’s impressive debut campaign in Major League Soccer highlights his potential as a rising star in the league.
