Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho has credited several influential football figures for shaping his career, acknowledging the impact of both coaches and former teammates in his journey through club and international football.
Currently on loan at Middlesbrough from Sevilla, the Super Eagles striker shared his reflections in an interview with TheBoroOfficial, highlighting the mentorship and guidance he has received over the years.
“A lot of people have helped me throughout my career,” Iheanacho said. “I’ve been fortunate to work with great coaches and play alongside exceptional teammates.”
The 27-year-old identified former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder John Mikel Obi as a significant influence from his time with the national team, alongside various coaches who have supported his development..
He also acknowledged the impact of Manchester City’s legendary figures, including Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, and Gael Clichy, as well as former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, whom he played alongside at the King Power Stadium.
On the managerial side, Iheanacho highlighted the role of experienced tacticians such as Manuel Pellegrini, Brendan Rodgers, and Pep Guardiola in refining his skills and footballing intelligence.
Iheanacho, who rose to prominence after winning the Golden Ball at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, has since established himself as a key player for Nigeria.
His club career has seen him represent Manchester City, Leicester City, and Sevilla, with his current stint at Middlesbrough offering him another opportunity to showcase his abilities.
