Kelechi Iheanacho helps Celtic seal the double
Kelechi Iheanacho capped Celtic’s season in style as the Scottish champions beat Dunfermline Athletic 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park.
The Nigerian forward scored Celtic’s third goal in the 73rd minute, finishing off a sharp solo run to help secure a record 63rd Scottish Cup title.
Celtic took control early through Daizen Maeda, who opened the scoring in the 19th minute after punishing a defensive error. Arne Engels doubled the lead before half-time with a powerful strike from distance, leaving Dunfermline with a mountain to climb. Iheanacho thought he had scored earlier in the second half, but that effort was ruled out for offside.
Dunfermline improved after the break and pulled one back through Josh Cooper, but by then the contest was already out of reach. The result completed a domestic double for Celtic under interim manager Martin O’Neill, who guided the team through the season’s final stretch.
It was another memorable occasion for Celtic as they secured a competition they have now lifted seven times in the past 10 seasons.
