Kawkab Marrakech bring back former Wydad goalkeeper Abdelali El Mohammadi

Moroccan club Kawkab Marrakech have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season by signing former Wydad Athletic Club goalkeeper Abdelali El Mohammadi on a free transfer.

The Marrakech-based side confirmed the deal as they continue to reshape their squad during the summer transfer window.

El Mohammadi returns to Kawkab after previously representing the club earlier in his career, and his arrival follows the departure of first-choice goalkeeper Mohamed Jamjami to Royal Army during the current transfer window.

The goalkeeper’s signing was made at the request of new head coach Youssef Safri, who wants to reinforce his squad ahead of the upcoming Moroccan football season.

El Mohammadi has considerable experience in Morocco’s professional championship, having also played for Renaissance Berkane and Wydad Athletic Club.

His return to Kawkab provides Safri with an experienced option between the posts as the club prepares for the new campaign.

The move is also a return to familiar surroundings for El Mohammadi, who began his career with the Marrakech club before going on to represent other leading teams in Moroccan football.

Safri tasked with leading Kawkab’s rebuild

Kawkab Marrakech appointed Safri as head coach earlier in the summer as part of preparations for the new season.

The former Morocco international has previously worked as an assistant coach at Raja Casablanca and Difaa El Jadida, while he has also managed Qatar SC.

Safri is now overseeing Kawkab’s first-team preparations and has been involved in the club’s recruitment plans as the Marrakech side continues to strengthen its squad.

The signing of El Mohammadi represents another move by Kawkab to add experience to their ranks before the start of the new Moroccan football campaign.
