Amidst speculations surrounding the potential candidacy of former Tunisian footballer Karim Haggui for the presidency of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), the retired player has unequivocally dismissed any such ambitions. Currently, Haggui is adamant that he has no intention of vying for the prominent position.
In a recent interview, the 40-year-old football veteran not only clarified his stance but also took the opportunity to provide valuable insights into the current state of Tunisian football.
Offering advice to those in authoritative positions, Haggui urged responsible decision-making for the advancement of the nation’s football on the international stage.
“Tunisian football will remain great. I ask those responsible for Tunisian football to be ashamed, to make the right decisions.
I have no ambition to become President, but what differentiates me from many officials is that I wore this Tunisian jersey and that I felt the happiness of having worn it.
People outside still talk to me about my shot on goal in 2004. That’s why today I’m speaking out,” expressed Haggui during the interview.
This clear statement comes amidst the backdrop of the current FTF president, Walid Al-Jary, facing potential ousting following a period of incarceration.
While rumors had circulated about Haggui stepping into the void, he has decisively quashed any such notions, emphasizing his commitment to the betterment of Tunisian football without seeking the presidency.
As the Tunisian football landscape continues to undergo scrutiny and potential transformations, Haggui’s perspective adds a voice of experience and passion, rooted in his personal connection to the nation’s football legacy.
