Karim Fouad injury blow for Egypt at Arab Cup
The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed that right-back Karim Fouad, of Al Ahly and Egypt’s second national team, will miss the rest of the Arab Cup in Doha after suffering a knee injury in training.
Fouad took a heavy knock to his knee during yesterday’s session, prompting immediate treatment from team doctor Ayman Zein and further tests this morning at Aspetar hospital.
Scans revealed a sprain to the inner ligament of Fouad’s right knee as well as a sprain affecting the cruciate graft, forcing the medical staff to rule him out of the tournament. He will now follow a conservative rehabilitation programme for an expected four to six weeks, with continuous coordination between Egypt’s staff and Al Ahly’s medical team to monitor his progress.
Fouad’s absence is a painful setback for coach Helmi Toulan, who loses a dynamic full-back just as Egypt chase qualification from the group.
The Pharaohs drew 1-1 with Kuwait in their opening game and sit second in Group C behind Jordan, who beat the UAE 3-1. Egypt now turn their focus to a crucial clash against the UAE on Saturday, while Al Ahly’s doctors also prepare an intensive treatment plan to ensure Fouad returns in the best possible shape after rehab.
