Karim Benzema has heaped praise on Al-Hilal following his move to the Saudi giants, describing the club as the equivalent of Real Madrid in Asia and admitting he had admired them long before joining.
Al-Hilal confirmed on Monday the signing of the experienced striker on a free transfer, with Benzema penning a one-and-a-half-year deal after bringing his contract with Al-Ittihad Jeddah to an end.
Speaking in comments shared on Al-Hilal’s official X account, the former Real Madrid forward expressed his delight at beginning a new chapter with the Riyadh-based club.
“I have great feelings, I feel good, and I am happy to be here,” Benzema said.
The Frenchman revealed that his early impressions of the team had been overwhelmingly positive.
“After participating in the first training session, I met my teammates and the technical director. I am happy to be part of this team,” he added.
Benzema went on to highlight the stature and pedigree of Al-Hilal, drawing comparisons with his former club in Spain.
“It’s a great team, with a great history, it has won many championships, and it’s like Real Madrid in Asia,” he stated.
He also praised the environment surrounding the club, pointing to the quality within the squad and the passion of the supporters.
“Everything is good, the fans here are great, the team is playing well, has great players, an excellent mentality, and a great work system,” Benzema continued.
Reflecting on past encounters, the striker admitted his admiration for Al-Hilal dates back several years.
“I have always admired this team (Al-Hilal), and I have previously played against them with Real Madrid. It was not an easy match, but a great match. I have great memories, and today I am happy to be a player in Al-Hilal,” he said.
Benzema concluded by underlining his determination to succeed and his hunger for silverware.
“You know my mentality, I have a great motivation, I will give everything I have on the field, and I will help this team, and God willing, together we will win championships, because winning them is important to me.”
