Kapowezha declines to clarify Wati’s position at Kruger United

Kruger United sporting director Elasto Kapowezha says the club will not comment on reports that chairman Bongani Wati has left the Betway Premiership side.

The reports concern an alleged attempt by co-owner Basil Khoza to take full control of the Mpumalanga-based club. Khoza is understood to have been negotiating with Wati over his departure, which would leave Khoza as the team’s sole owner.

A club statement reportedly circulated on social media claims Wati is no longer involved with Kruger United and that Treasure Mathebula has been appointed interim Chief Executive Officer.

However, Kapowezha was unable to confirm or deny those claims when approached by KickOff.

“We obviously cannot respond to what is happening on social media; the club has to officially communicate via their platforms. So, until then, there is little I or anyone at the club can say,” Kapowezha told KICK OFF.

He said the club would only be in a position to address the matter once an official announcement had been made through its own channels.

“We are open to sharing information the club can provide, but for now, things are just being said on social media. It’s not good for us, and we generally do not respond to such comments, especially about social media,” he added.

“So, if the club could communicate properly through their official platform, then we could comment.”

Kapowezha was then asked directly whether Wati remained part of Kruger United, but again declined to provide an answer.

“Nah, we cannot comment on that at this stagewhether he is still part of the team or not. At the moment, the club has not issued any statement on the matter,” he said.
