Kamou Malo has been named head coach of CI Kamsar, marking a new chapter in the Burkinabe manager’s career as he prepares to take charge in the Guinean first division.
The 61-year-old, best known for guiding Burkina Faso to the semi-finals of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, takes the reins at CI Kamsar following a formal recruitment process.
His appointment was confirmed by club president René Julien Bangoura, who expressed confidence in Malo’s leadership.
“Mr. René Julien Bangoura, president of the Kamsar Industrial Club, has the pleasant pleasure of informing national and international opinion that Mr. Malo Kamou of Burkina Faso has been selected following the call for applications to coach the club’s first team,” read an official club statement.
This move represents a fresh challenge for Malo, who will now embark on his third managerial stint in African club football, having previously worked in Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast.
His arrival signals CI Kamsar’s ambition to turn a new page after an underwhelming 2023-2024 season.
The club, which plays in Guinea’s Ligue 1 Pro, finished sixth out of 14 teams in the most recent campaign, securing 35 points from a possible 78.
It was a performance that fell short of expectations and prompted a restructuring of the technical setup.
Malo’s experience and tactical acumen are seen as critical assets in steering the team toward a more competitive future.
A strong showing in the upcoming season, particularly a top-three finish, would be regarded as a significant achievement for CI Kamsar under their new leadership.
The club hopes to establish a firmer presence in both domestic and regional competitions, with Malo expected to bring structure and consistency to the squad.
Malo’s previous success on the international stage, including guiding Burkina Faso to an impressive fourth-place finish at AFCON 2021, has earned him considerable respect across the continent.
Known for his disciplined approach and emphasis on team cohesion, his arrival in Guinea has generated optimism among CI Kamsar supporters and observers of the local league.
With pre-season preparations soon underway, all eyes will be on Malo as he seeks to make an immediate impact in unfamiliar territory.
The coming months promise to be crucial as he builds a side capable of challenging Guinea’s elite and reshaping CI Kamsar’s domestic ambitions.
