Kamil Grabara ruled out for months after Juventus goalkeeper suffers ACL injury

Juventus goalkeeper Kamil Grabara is expected to spend several months out after undergoing surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in training.

The 27-year-old Poland international confirmed the injury on social media on Wednesday, posting a photograph of himself in a hospital bed following the operation.

“I’m not going to lie, this is not something I ever wanted to post, but life comes at you fast sometimes,” Grabara wrote on Instagram.

The injury comes only days after the goalkeeper made an impressive start to his career in Turin. Grabara joined Juventus on loan from Wolfsburg in August and made his debut in last week’s 5-0 Europa League win over NEC Nijmegen.

He marked his first appearance for the club by providing an assist and being named player of the match as Juventus secured a comfortable victory.

However, Grabara felt discomfort in his right knee during training on Saturday. Subsequent medical examinations confirmed that he had suffered an ACL tear.

Reports in Italy indicate that the injury could keep him out for as long as seven months, leaving Juventus needing to find additional cover in goal.

The setback will also rule Grabara out of Poland’s upcoming UEFA Nations League group matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Juventus have been linked with a move for former goalkeeper Neto as they assess their options. The 37-year-old Brazilian played for the Bianconeri between 2015 and 2017.

Juventus are next scheduled to return to Serie A action on 11 October, when they travel to face Cagliari at the Unipol Domus.
