Kaizer Chiefs target more signings before September transfer deadline

Langelihle Phili is not expected to be the final addition to the Kaizer Chiefs squad, with the club continuing to pursue further signings before the registration window closes on 22 September.

Head coach Fernando Da Cruz has already brought in four new players since taking charge. Thabo Moloisane, Renaldo Leaner, Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko and Phili have all joined the club, while Khanyisa Mayo’s stay has also been made permanent.

However, those arrivals are not expected to end Chiefs’ activity in the transfer market. A source close to developments at the club’s Village base said management was still working on additional deals.

“No, he is definitely not the last,” said the source, speaking in an emphatic tone.

“The club management is trying to work on a few more.”

Da Cruz indicated shortly after arriving at Chiefs that he wanted to strengthen his squad further. The French coach has spoken openly about his intention to add four more players, with his main focus on improving the attacking options available to him.

Chiefs are looking to recruit another striker and an offensive midfielder, while also adding greater depth on the wings. Da Cruz believes those reinforcements would give his side more variety in attack and make them less predictable to opponents.

The Soweto club have been strongly linked with Stellenbosch FC winger Faiz Abrahams. Chiefs are also reported to have been monitoring at least two players from Golden Arrows, although no further names have been disclosed.

The ongoing recruitment comes after Chiefs made an encouraging start to their Betway Premiership campaign. They opened the season with a 3-1 victory over Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium last Saturday.

That result provides early momentum for Da Cruz’s side as they prepare for their next major test. Golden Arrows will be waiting for Chiefs in the MTN8 quarter-finals at FNB Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00.

The club’s immediate attention will therefore be divided between preparing for the cup tie and completing any remaining transfer business. Chiefs’ management still has until 22 September to register new players, and sources indicate that further movement through the club’s incoming transfers door remains possible.

Phili’s arrival has added to a summer of change at Amakhosi, but the latest developments suggest the club are not yet finished reshaping Da Cruz’s squad. With the coach seeking additional attacking options and management continuing negotiations, more arrivals could follow before the deadline.
