Kaizer Chiefs set to sign forward Tshegofatso Mabasa after Orlando Pirates exit
Kaizer Chiefs are set to intensify their pursuit of forward Tshegofatso Mabasa following his departure from arc-rivals Orlando Pirates.
The former Moroka Swallows, Bloemfontein Celtic and Sekhukhune United forward has been strongly linked with a move to Naturena in recent weeks.
However, uncertainty surrounding his future persisted as Pirates had not made their final decision on whether to retain his services.
With the Buccaneers now confirming his exit, the path appears clearer for Mabasa to complete a switch to Chiefs, a move that would undoubtedly attract significant attention across South African football.
Mabasa’s departure comes as a surprise considering the impact he has made whenever called upon in Pirates colours. The striker has consistently delivered important goals and played a key role for the Soweto giants during his time at the club.
His name is firmly etched in the club’s history after reaching the milestone of 50 goals during his five-year spell with the Sea Robbers, underlining his importance to the team over the years.
Despite his achievements, Mabasa spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Stellenbosch FC in search of regular playing time. The move allowed him to remain active and continue showcasing his qualities in the Betway Premiership.
While the 29-year-old has yet to publicly reveal his next destination, indications suggest that Kaizer Chiefs are among the frontrunners for his signature. With his departure from Pirates now officially confirmed, a move to Naturena appears increasingly likely.
Should the transfer materialise, Mabasa would become one of the most high-profile players to cross the Soweto divide in recent years, adding further intrigue to an already fierce rivalry between the two clubs.
