Head coach of Kaizer Chiefs Nasreddin Nabi has opened up on a failed move for South African defender Yaya Sithole.
In an attempt to strengthen their team, the South Africa club contacted Sithole, who plies his trade for Portuguese side Gil Vicente for his services but the move fell through.
The 26-year-old defender had to stay at Gil Vicente following a breakdown in talks over a move.
“I’ve talked to Kaizer Chiefs,” Sithole confirmed last season before adding, “We didn’t continue with the negotiations until today. They didn’t submit an official offer; we were just talking, and after that, it stopped there” said Yaya Sithole.
Kaizer Chiefs are said to be working on a move for foreign players to bolster their squad. It seems that the difficulties faced by the team in signing players from South Africa will force them to go into the process of signing players from outside the continent.
Sithole has only made two appearances for Gil Vicente in the Portuguese top-flight this season. His current contract with the European club is expected to elapse in the summer of 2026.
The 26-year-old defender has made 18 appearances for the South Africa national team since making his debut in June 2022.
