Kaizer Chiefs loan plans could see more young players leave

Kaizer Chiefs could send more young players out on loan before the transfer window closes, despite already confirming five departures for the 2026/27 season.

Samkelo Zwane, Bontle Molefe, Sifiso Timba, Ofentse Kgosana and Vicky Mkhawana will spend the campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as the club aims to give them regular first-team football and accelerate their development.

However, the movement away from Chiefs may not be finished, with Xolani Cossa, Naledi Hlongwane and Pheko Phago all understood to be candidates for temporary moves.

The Amakhosi are believed to be considering further loan deals so their young players can gain consistent experience in the professional game rather than remain short of opportunities in the first-team squad.

Hlongwane has already attracted interest from Hope FC, who are newcomers to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. A move has not been ruled out, although no deal has yet been confirmed.

Hope FC currently have Zwane and Molefe on loan from Chiefs. There have also reportedly been discussions about the possibility of Hlongwane and Phago joining the club, although the situation remains unresolved.

Cossa, meanwhile, is expected to complete a season-long loan move to Gomora United. The club are waiting for Chiefs to finalise the paperwork required to complete the signing.

The left-sided centre back spent last season on loan at Black Lions FC in the Botswana Premier League. His anticipated move to Gomora United would provide another opportunity for him to continue his development through regular competitive football.

Nkosana Mbuthu is also among the Chiefs players who could move elsewhere for game time during the 2026/27 campaign. Mbuthu spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicesterford City and may again be given the chance to play away from the club.

Chiefs have therefore already committed to a significant loan strategy for the new season, with five players confirmed to be moving to the second tier. The possible departures of Cossa, Hlongwane, Phago and Mbuthu would extend that approach and give the club’s emerging players further experience outside the senior squad.

For Hlongwane and Phago, Hope FC remain a possible destination, while Cossa’s expected switch to Gomora United appears to depend mainly on the completion of the necessary documentation. The final decisions are expected before the transfer window closes.
