Kaizer Chiefs land Thabo Moloisane on free transfer in defensive reinforcement

Kaizer Chiefs have moved decisively in the transfer market, securing the signing of experienced centre-back Thabo Moloisane as a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Stellenbosch FC.

The 27-year-old defender officially became available after Stellenbosch confirmed his departure at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing to a close a highly productive spell in the Cape Winelands.

Moloisane arrived at Stellenbosch nearly three years ago after Maritzburg United—now competing as Durban City—were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad, earning a reputation for consistency, leadership, and defensive discipline.

Across all competitions, the centre-back made more than 100 appearances for the club and played an important role in their recent continental push, becoming one of the most trusted names in the heart of defence.

His exit is expected to be a notable setback for Stellenbosch, now under coach Gavin Hunt, given the stability and experience he brought to the back line.

Chiefs, meanwhile, acted swiftly to secure his services, reportedly edging out Sekhukhune United in the race for his signature. The Soweto giants are expected to officially unveil the defender once the new registration window opens on 1 July.

In the recently concluded season, Moloisane featured 33 times in all competitions, including 21 appearances in the Betway Premiership, despite occasional setbacks from suspensions and minor injuries.

His durability and ability to remain consistently available have been highlighted as key strengths throughout his career.

His performances also brought him onto the radar of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, with the defender previously included in World Cup qualifying discussions.

At Naturena, Moloisane will join an increasingly competitive defensive pool that includes Given Msimango, Inácio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, Zitha Kwinika, and Aden McCarthy, setting the stage for an intense battle for places in the upcoming season.
