Tshegofatso Mabasa on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly interested in signing Tshegofatso Mabasa as the striker edges closer to the end of his contract with Orlando Pirates.

Mabasa is currently on loan at Stellenbosch FC, where he has spent the season impressing under coach Gavin Hunt. However, his contract with Pirates is due to expire next month, placing several clubs on alert over his availability.

The left-footed forward is yet to commit his future despite being eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club. Chiefs have now emerged as serious contenders to secure his signature as they continue searching for attacking reinforcements ahead of next season.

Mabasa’s loan spell at Stellenbosch is set to conclude this weekend, and uncertainty remains over whether Pirates still view him as part of their long-term plans. The Buccaneers reportedly have not exercised the option to extend his stay, further fueling speculation that the striker could be on his way out of the club permanently.

Allowing the 28-year-old to leave on loan earlier in the campaign was already viewed by many as a sign that he had fallen down the pecking order at the Soweto giants. With Pirates seemingly prepared to move on, Chiefs are hoping to capitalize on the situation and lure the striker to Naturena.

However, Amakhosi could face stiff competition for his services. Hunt is believed to be eager to retain Mabasa at Stellenbosch after the striker’s contributions during his loan spell. The experienced coach reportedly sees the forward as an important figure in his plans for next season.

The situation could now develop into a transfer battle between Chiefs and Stellenbosch, with Mabasa expected to make a decision on his future once his current campaign officially comes to an end.

For Chiefs, the potential signing would add valuable experience and proven goal-scoring ability to their attacking department as the club aims to strengthen its squad ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.
