Pitso Mosimane among candidates for Kaizer Chiefs job

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly placed several high-profile coaches on a five-man shortlist as the club intensifies its search for a new head coach ahead of the upcoming season.

Among the leading names under consideration is highly respected South African tactician Pitso Mosimane, whose decorated record in African football has made him one of the standout candidates for the role.

Mosimane, a multiple CAF Champions League winner and one of the continent’s most successful coaches, is viewed as a strong option to bring stability, structure, and a winning mentality to the Soweto giants as they look to rebuild and challenge for top honours again.

According to reports from South African media, Kaizer Chiefs have compiled a shortlist of five coaches, featuring a mix of local and international options as the club weighs up the best profile to lead the next phase of its project.

The club’s decision comes after parting ways with Cedric Kazi and Khalil Ben Youssef, despite the duo guiding the team to its best league finish since the 2019–2020 season and securing qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. While the progress was acknowledged, the management is believed to be aiming for a more ambitious direction.

The coaching position at Chiefs remains one of the most demanding roles in African football, given the club’s massive fan base, high expectations, and long-standing desire to return to domestic dominance.

Another name reportedly under consideration is Benni McCarthy, who brings experience from his time at Manchester United’s coaching setup and his current role with the Kenya national team. His inclusion reflects Chiefs’ interest in blending modern coaching ideas with local football knowledge.

The final decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks, with the club carefully evaluating candidates based on experience, tactical philosophy, and ability to handle pressure at one of the continent’s biggest institutions.

Kaizer Chiefs finished third in the league with 54 points last season and will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup, but the board is reportedly targeting a stronger push for silverware under new leadership.
