Kaizer Chiefs emerge as potential destination for Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana

Kaizer Chiefs have emerged as a possible destination for Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana, who is available after leaving Tunisian club Esperance de Tunis.

The 27-year-old winger is considering his next career move after ending his time with the Tunisian giants. A return to South Africa could now be an option, with his representatives reportedly offering him to the Betway Premiership club.

According to SABC Sport, the approach followed the collapse of a proposed move to Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club. That deal reportedly fell through because of registration issues.

Mokwana’s availability has put Chiefs in the picture, although the Soweto club have yet to finalise an agreement with the player. The winger’s next destination remains undecided.

Mokwana’s career since leaving Sekhukhune

Mokwana joined Esperance de Tunis from Sekhukhune United in August 2024. Before making the move to Tunisia, he had attracted interest from several South African clubs, including Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

His first season at Esperance was described as promising, but he moved to Saudi Arabian club Al-Hazem on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.

After completing that spell in the Middle East, Mokwana returned to Esperance de Tunis. His return was followed by the decision of the two parties to part ways, leaving him searching for a new club.

A move back to the Betway Premiership would give Mokwana an opportunity to revive his club career in South Africa. It could also provide Chiefs with another attacking option as Fernando da Cruz’s side attempt to improve their fortunes after a series of recent setbacks.

However, while Chiefs have been linked with the Bafana Bafana player, there is no confirmation that the club will complete a deal for the former Sekhukhune United winger.
