Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze labels Glody Lilepo suspension ‘unfortunate’ after AmaZulu win
Kaizer Chiefs interim co-coach Cedric Kaze has described the suspension of winger Glody Lilepo as an unfortunate setback for the side following victory over AmaZulu FC in the Premiership.
The Congolese winger was sent off after receiving two yellow cards as the Soweto giant cruised to a narrow 1-0 triumph over their opponent. His second caution came moments after scoring the decisive goal for his outfit in the highly competitive clash.
Lilepo was cautioned for removing his shirt while celebrating, an offence that automatically warrants a yellow card — resulting in his dismissal and subsequent suspension for Amakhosi’s final league game of the season.
Speaking after the match, Kaze admitted the incident was frustrating for the club, although he understood the emotions behind the player’s celebration.
“Sometimes you also understand the player, the passion and relief for scoring but it’s good that we have three points,” Kaze said. “But in future we need to be careful about things like that.”
The Chiefs assistant coach stressed that players must remain disciplined, especially when already carrying a booking during a match.
“We need to be careful because he was already booked and he takes his shirt off as he celebrates.
“Which means that we’re going to miss him in the last game. It’s an unfortunate situation.”
Despite the setback, Chiefs managed to hold on for all three points to strengthen their position near the top end of the table.
Amakhosi will now turn their attention to their final Betway Premiership fixture of the campaign against Chippa United next Saturday.
